Room Parents & Class Volunteers

Helping out in the classroom is a wonderful way to contribute to AHES and to your child’s educational journey. Whether you are a Room Parent or are helping out in the classroom, the teachers and other parents greatly appreciate all of the time spent with the students!

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Be a Room Parent

Each classroom needs two parents to organize and run the 3 classroom parties and Teacher Appreciation Week activity for your class (e.g. door decorating, gift coordination). You will be responsible for communicating party details to the other parents, collecting money from them to cover the cost of food and activities, and organizing all food and activities for the day of the party.

Room Parents are assigned at the beginning of the school year and will serve for the entire school year. If you are interested in serving as room parent next school year, be on the lookout for emails from your child’s teacher asking for volunteers when the school year begins.

The Room Parent Coordinator oversees and serves as a resource to all Room Parents. If you are interested in learning about this PTA position, click here to learn more.

  • Volunteer in the Classroom

Teachers can always use extra help in the classroom! Volunteering is usually on a bi-weekly or monthly basis for 1 hour at a time depending on each of the teacher’s needs. Examples of tasks include sorting and filing papers, reading with students, assisting with tablet assignments, and prepping supplies for projects to be taken home.

Most teachers will reach out around Back to School Night to ask for volunteers. If it is the middle of the school year, please email your child’s teacher to see if there are still opportunities to help out in the classroom. If you need assistance getting in touch with them, fill out the form below and we will be in contact with you shortly.

Anyone volunteering on campus is required to submit an OUSD Volunteer Application (information below).

OUSD Volunteer Application

All volunteers are required to obtain clearance through our district process every school year. Contact the AHES office if you have any issues with the Volunteer Application link. Please ensure that you have pre-arranged volunteer times with the teacher or coordinator of the activity before arriving on campus.

  • Volunteers who work less than five hours per week must complete the required Keenan Trainings.

  • Volunteers who work five hours or more per week must complete the required Keenan Trainings, a TB test, and obtain a fingerprint clearance through the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigations. Volunteers are responsible for all associated costs.

You may complete the required training and submit your documents to volunteer after clicking the link below. Please note that volunteers must have all their documents ready to load prior to initiating the Raptor application process.

It can take a few days for the office to process your application so we recommend completing the application sooner rather than later.
