Dear Panther Families,
OUSD’s strategic plan goal of parent and community partnerships calls for more intensive support to parents for student achievement through the District Advisory Council (DAC).
The purpose of the DAC is to involve parents in the planning, development and evaluation of programs and services in the district.
My responsibilities as your DAC representative is to learn about state and federal regulations, discuss academic programs and services, share effective practices from our school site, strategize to increase parent involvement and provide recommendations to district administrators and the Board of Education.
We had our first meeting last Wednesday, 10/28. The following was discussed:
Facilities Bond - OUSD is soliciting feedback on the possibility of another Facilities bond for the 2016 ballot to improve our high schools. If you would like to provide your feedback, please contact me directly as I am consolidating feedback to forward on to the district.
Local Control & Accountability Plan (LCAP) Survey – If you recall, in 2013 CA implemented the Local Control Funding Formula (LCCF) as a means to disburse education funds and provide school districts more autonomy on how those funds are allocated. The LCAP is an important component of the LCFF. It describes how the district intends to meet annual goals for all students with specific activities to address state and local priorities. The districts must obtain parent and public input in developing, revising, and updating LCAPs. Here’s your opportunity to have your opinions about OUSD’s programs and services to your children be heard. Take the survey
Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) update – Since the implementation of the VAPA program, the district has provided to all 27 of its elementary schools a music program for its 5th an 6th grade students. Each of those students has been receiving 90 minutes of instruction per week and an instrument to learn to play (if applicable). The K-4th students have been fiscally provided the Art Masters Program (or in our case Fibo Arts funded by PTA). To view the power point presentation on the VAPA program

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEAM) Labs – Several schools have been implementing a hands-on learning environment where they can incorporate the CA state standards involving cooperation, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking in the areas of science, technology, math and engineering.
